The DVCC Girls traveled to Southern California on Saturday, September 21st for the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic, a huge meet that draws the Best of the West. The 3.0-mile course is flat and fast and provides a great opportunity for runners to post personal- and/or season-best times. This year, Desert Vista competed in the Blue (Division I) Class races.
Seniors/Juniors Race: DVCC rose to the challenge and posted a first-place finish, led by senior Co-Captain Dana Pivin, who took medalist honors with a time of 18:24. Next across the line for the Thunder was junior Izzy Villarreal in 6th (19:08). Junior Co-Captain Lydia Leeman finished 23rd (20:12), followed closely by senior Alianna Collins in 26th (20:14). Junior Bethany Yaso completed the scoring in 58th (20:57).
Sophomores Race: The Thunder were led by Laniya Begody in 21st with a time of 20:23. Also competing for DVCC were Sophie Jiminez in 56th (21:19) and Nicolette Margaron in 64th (21:32).
Freshmen Race: Desert Vista grabbed 8th overall, led by Kendyl Taylor in 3rd place in 10th with a time of 19:31. Bailey Orr was next to the line for DVCC in 6th (19:52), followed by Jocelyn Prather in 21st (20:54). Rounding out the scorers for the Thunder were Madison Edens in 139th (24:02) and Gloria Chair in179 (25:04).
