The DVCC Girls travelled to Freestone Park in Gilbert, AZ on Saturday morning September 7th to compete in the Western Equinox Cross Country Festival.
In the Championship race, the Thunder were led to a 7th-place finish by junior Izzy Villarreal, whose time of 20:48 was good for 34th place overall. Freshman Kendyl Taylor was close behind in 36th (20:50), followed by junior Lydia Leeman in 41st (21:02). Senior Alianna Collins in 60th (21:55) and sophomore Laniya Begody in 63rd (22:03) completed the scoring for the Thunder.
In the Open Race, DVCC captured 1st-place overall, led by sophomore Bethany Yaso who won the race with a time of 23:08. A trio of top-10 DVCC runners followed with junior Abby Fedyski in 5th (23:42), sophomore Sophie Jimenez in 7th (23:57), and junior Kaelyn Albrechsten in 9th (24:13). Rounding out the scoring for the Thunder was sophomore Nicolette Margaron in 11th (24:43).
In the Freshman race, Gloria Chair placed 18th overall with a time of 27:31 to lead the squad. Soleil Matias-Rivera was next across the line in 45th (31:56), followed by Solimer Matias-Rivera in 50th (32:09).
