On Saturday Nov 13th 2021, the Arizona State Cross Country Championships returned to Cave Creek Golf Course in Phoenix, AZ.
It was a clear and unseasonably warm day, with temps in the mid-80s at the start time.
The Desert Vista Girls Cross Country team scored 45 points to take second place at the 2021 Arizona State D1 Cross Country Championship.
Junior Lauren Ping is the 2021 Arizona D1 Cross Country State Champion, winning the race in 17:39, out-pacing the second place finisher by almost 90 seconds. This was her third consecutive individual state championship, having won previously in 2019 and 2020.
She was followed by senior Katie Sigerud in 4th (19:19). She will be continuing her running career next year in college at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA.
Next across the line were a pair of juniors, both running in their third consecutive State Meet: Emily Littlefield in 5th (19:26) and Bailee Christofis in 6th (19:32).
Junior Bella Klein, competing in her first State Meet, completed the scoring in 29th (20:46).
Also competing were junior Anna Lowman in 39th (21:12) and freshman Aspen Busby in 48th (21:32).
With only one scoring runner graduating, the DVCC Girls are looking forward to another great season in 2022!
