The Desert Vista Girls cross country team competed at the Desert Twilight Invitational in Casa Grande, on Friday Sept 27th. This meet is ranked as a top 10 cross country meet, with nationally ranked teams and individuals traveling from Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Texas, Illinois, Tennessee, and Virginia.
Leading up to the race, the Desert Vista Girls were featured in a Workout Wednesday video on
www.az.milesplit.com.
To start things off, Savannah Selin won the Girls Freshman race, finishing first out of 165 competitors with a time of 19:41. Chelsea Condon finished 16th overall with a time of 21:48, and Bella Klein took third for the DV team in 22:32. The DVCC Girls team took 3rd place out of 25 teams.
In the Large School Open Race, the DV team finished as the top team in Arizona, and 3rd place overall out of 43 teams competing. Senior Maddy Shoemaker led the way, finishing 6th out of 496 runners with a time of 20:00. Julia Nelson and Jessica Condon finished 2 and 3 for the DVCC team and were 11th and 23rd overall in the race.
In the Sweepstakes Championship race, the DVCC Girls team competed against several of the nation’s best teams and finished first among all Arizona girl’s teams, and 4th place overall out of 23 teams.
Freshman Lauren Ping ran a personal best time of 16:49 and took 2nd place overall in the race. She was followed by Senior Katy Clausen at 18:26, Junior Olivia Thatcher at 18:43, Freshman Emily Littlefield at 18:56, and Senior Josey Gregory at 19:05. Juniors Eve and Quinn Boardman at 19:23, 19:26 and Freshman Bailee Christofis 19:31 also ran strong races, scoring ahead of several runners and widening the gap between DVCC Girls and other teams.

Next on the schedule for the DVCC Girls is the Titan Invitational in Chandler on Oct 11th and the Mt Sac Invitational on October 26th.
