The DVCC girls kicked off the Western Equinox XC Festival early Saturday morning in the Women's Large School Varsity race. Coming in close together yet again were Sophomores, Aspen Busby and Vanessa Acedo, finishing in 33rd and 35th place. Olivia Nichols (10) had a great finish, as she surged to catch her teammates ahead of her. The girls finished 6th out of 18 teams, with a final team score of 200.
The rest of the team competed in the Open race led by Junior Desiree Perez coming in at 23:47.1. The girls again placed 6th finishing with 166 points. With a hilly course, the girls dug deep and trusted their training as they each finished the race strong.
The girls are ready to prepare this week as they look ahead to the highly anticipated Desert Twilight XC Festival. With a new course this year, it will be exciting to see the Thunder bring it next Friday, September 30th at the Coyote Run Golf Course.
