On Friday night September 27th, the Thunder Boys travelled to Toka Sticks GC in East Mesa to race against some of the top teams from the West Region in the 18th Annual Desert Twilight Cross Country Festival.
The DVCC Varsity placed 20th in the Sweepstakes race, with Maxton Klein leading the way in 67th place (16:04). A couple of sophomores were next with La'a Hancock in 107th (16:27) and Luke Littlefield in 129th (16:39). A pair of juniors rounded out the scoring for DVCC in a virtual tie with Alex Hammond in 199th (17:16.9) and Nike Maldonado in 200th (17:17.0).
The Thunder JV took 6th place in the (combined) Large School Open race, led by Enrique Ballesteros in 13th (17:31). Next across the line was Trent Shirley in 17th (17:40), followed by Abhay Mane in 36th (18:33), LeWillis Caneus in 68th (19:04), and Co-Captain Ricky Garibay in 118th (19:36).
Carter Frisk led the DVCC Freshmen to a 3rd-place in the Large School Freshmen (1.6-mile) race, placing 3rd overall with a time of 9:27. Also scoring for the Thunder were Dillon Plethel in 6th (9:35), Rumi Islam in 63rd (11:02), Roman Cuaron in 88th, and Ben Leeman in 91st (11:27).
The Thunder has a week off from racing and will resume the season at the Epic Tourneys Cross Country Invite on October 11th.
