Although it was an extremely humid day at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Tempe on Saturday, the Thunder rolled in a stout performance over the 3.1 mile course! The boys were led in the Junior Varsity section of the meet by freshman J Iannone, who conquered the course in 17:58 for a second-place finish. He was followed by senior Matt Beeks (18:31) in 10th place, sophomore Ernie Del Rio (18:42) in 13th, junior Nathan Chan (18:42) in 14th, and junior Nathan Harbertson (18:49) in 18th to help the Thunder to a 3rd-place showing with over 45 teams and 469 individuals competing.
The Varsity was able to secure 2nd place in the Open Varsity race of over 25 teams! They were also led by a freshman as Nick Thatcher ran a 17:48 for an 8th-place finish individually. He was followed closely by fellow freshman Habtamu Cheney (17:57) in 15th place, sophomore Nick Walrod (18:00) in 17th, junior Anthony Rameriz (18:12) in 21st, with sophomore Jackson Hickey (18:25) rounding out the scoring in 30th place.
DVCC will travel to Casa Grande this Friday to battle in the Desert Twilight Invitational where they hope to continue their fantastic motto: Team First!
