The Thunder Boys Cross Country Team was in action this past weekend in Tucson, where they competed in the Desert Solstice Cross Country Invitational on Friday evening, September 11, 2015 with over 30 teams.
The JV Thunder were led by a 4th-place finish by Junior Jackson Hickey with a time of 18:48 over 5 kilometers. He was followed by point scorers Keith Koleber in 5th (18:51), Jack Willems 9th (19:05), Jacob Lemus 12th (19:08), and Gordon Fuller 13th (19:09). The JV boys combined for a team score of 25 points, good for 1st place overall!
The Varsity ran in two separate races over the same course: 4 runners in the Maroon Race and 4 runners in the Gold Race. The top five fastest runners from both races were combined to calculate the team score, represented as cumulative time. The Thunder were led by Junior Leo Crowder who covered the 5k distance in a mere 17:22 for 13th place in the Gold Race! Pushing from behind were DJ Johnson 16th-Gold (17:41), D'Angelo Piasecki 28th-Gold (18:03), Jackson Snedecor 13th-Maroon (18:05), Travis Kearney 14th-Maroon (18:08), Joe Kretschmar 16th-Maroon (18:15), Josh Koury 21st-Maroon(18:31), and David Neighbors 41st-Gold (18:33). The Varsity was able to post a combined total time of 89:17, just 14 seconds behind 1st for 2nd place overall!
