Over the Fall Break, the DVCC Boys travelled over to the grueling Crossroads Park where they faced incredible adversity at the 4th Annual Titan Invitational. There was exceptionally strong competition at this meet and again presented some of the best teams. This 5k course consistently brings out the “guts” in the runner and always gives the individual a taste for the hardest factors of competition.

The first race of the day was the Boys Freshmen race. The freshmen pack was led by Martin Fuller who won the race with a time of 18:03.  He was followed by Vade Pierce in 12th (19:47), Justin Perillo in 14th (20:01), Connor Donihi in 31st(21:04), and Adam De La Riva in 36th (21:22).  The total team score of 52 points gave DVCC a respectable 2nd-place finish against some very strong competition.

The next race was the Boys Open, which included a combination of Sophomores, Juniors, and some Seniors. The DVCC Open squad was led by Sophomore Noah Werbelow in 10th (18:17), followed by Junior Ceth Reeves in 15th (18:27), Sophomore Nicolo Perciballi in 24th (18:46), and Juniors Milan Patel (18:47) and Marshall Smith (18:48) in 25th and 26th place. This performance gave the top-five a 31-second split and DVCC a 3rd-place finish with 91 points.

Finally, when the heat really started to hurt, the Boys Varsity race was started. With the regular Varsity taking the week off, the first runner for the team was Junior Travis Kearney in 17th (16:59), followed by Junior Lee Nasewytewa in 30th (17:21), Seniors Jack Willems (17:26) and J Iannone (17:28) in 36th and 37th, and Junior Neal Saxena in 66th (18:11). The DVCC Boys gave a valiant effort and posted a score of 118 points for a 6th-place finish.

Given the effort, depth, and commitment of the entire DVCC squad it is often said that DVCC can field two top-10 squads at the State meet each season. This performance by the talented DVCC JV squad against the top competitors from other teams is further evidence to back up that claim.

GO THUNDER!!
