Desert Vista Boys Cross Country competed in another high energy competition on Friday, September 27. The Desert Twilight Invitational provides a great atmosphere with a fairly flat course that helped our boys put out some incredible times. Despite dusty conditions in previous years, rainfall in prior days to the event allowed for the dirt to be settled. It was now time for the team to show what they’ve got and give it their all.
The DVCC Frosh group were the first to kick things off. It was a very well run race all the way around but Tyler Anderson showed the competitors how it is done coming across in first place. His time was 17:16, a full 10 seconds away from the second place finisher. In 13th we had Stevie Saurini at 18:09 and Nick Ferro in 21st at 18:40. The combined effort of the team gave them an amazing second place team finish to come home with.
The DVCC Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors raced in the highly competitive Boys Large School Open. The first Thunder runner to cross came was Jacob Cardon in 13th at a time of 16:56. Not far behind was Noah Billeter at 16:59 in 15th. Following them was Ryan Hoyt in 22nd, Zaire Blevins in 38th and Nicolo Perciballi in 41st. The efforts of all the boys contributed to the number 5 team placement that DVCC took home.
Lastly, the Varsity squad went at it in the Sweepstakes race. Competing with some of the fastest runners in the nation, our first runner was Sammy Van Alstine in 25th with a quick time of 15:23. Noah Jodon crossed in 40th at 15:45. Following them was Ethan Bukowski in 15:54 at 57th, Demitris Love in 60th at 16:01 and Jonathan Estrada in 85th at 16:11. This extreme gutting effort gave the boys the honorable title of 6th place.
Overall, the boys ran vigorously to earn the times they received. The competition was intense and the boys did very well. Their dedication to the team and consistent hard work between races helps them find collective success. Stay tuned for the next meet which is the 5th Annual Titan Invitational!
Thank you so much to all those who made this event possible! We are all so grateful for your efforts and how amazing you help make this Cross Country program!
