Desert Vista Boys Cross Country competed most recently in the 5th Annual Titan Invitational on Friday, October 11th. On very short notice, the location for the meet was changed. The venue was brand new and knowledge of what to expect for course terrain was limited. The boys gave it their all on this course, which was new to all.
The Freshman Boys showed the rest of the teams how it was done. Four DVCC frosh runners finished in the top 20. Coming in first overall was Stevie Saurini with a time of 18:17. Following was Jake Schenach (18:56) in 8th, Nick Ferro (19:05) in 12th, Max Worthen (19:14) in 13th, and Shaud Becenti (20:35) in 35th. These fast times gave these impressive young men the team placement of 1st!
Next to take the line were the non-varsity Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors. Running in the Large School Open race allowed for a competitive race. The first to finish for the boys was Noah Patch in 9th place with a time of 18:18. Following him was Jack Landers (18:36) in 15th, Benton Worthen (18:46) in 19th, Will Perciballi (18:55) crossing in 22nd, and Adam Hansen (19:18) in 41st. With these results, the JV boys came home with a 5th place finish.
Lasty, the Varsity squad. Ryan Hoyt was the first individual runner for Desert Vista in 28th with a time of 17:10. Noah Werbelow (17:24) in 36th, Zaire Blevins (17:32) in 43rd, and Nicolo Perciballi (17:46) in 57th, and Jacob Cardon in 71st were the next Thunder Runners to finish. Running in a very competitive race and with the fast times they achieved, the DVCC Varsity team took 7th place.
The team should be very proud of how they ran. The new and hill-infested course posed a difficult challenge but these young men gave it their best. Stay tuned as the team takes on their next test this upcoming Wednesday at the Tempe City Meet and then on to California on Saturday for the famed Mt. Sac Invitational!
Thank you so much to all those who made this event possible! We are all so grateful for your efforts and how amazing you help make this Cross Country program a success.
