On Wednesday, October 15th 2014 the Thunder was rolling through the hills of Kiwanis Park for the Tempe City Meet Championships.
The meet started out with the Freshmen Boys Race in which DVCC took 1st place with Nick Thatcher winning the individual crown with a time of 17:39. He was followed closely by teammate J Iannone who took 2nd (17:44), Reece Donihi in 6th (18:52), Keith Koleber in 7th (18:58), and final scorer Jack Willems in 9th (19:07) to combine for a 25 point total to beat Corona’s total of 33.
The Open Boys Race was even more of a dominant showing for DVCC as they took 1st place with (Jr) Jackson Snedecor winning the meet with a time of 17:38. Closely behind him in 3rd place overall was (Jr) Matt Anciaux (17:54), (So) Nick Walrod in 4th (17:57), (Jr) Anthony Ramirez in 5th (17:57), and (So) Jackson Hickey in 6th (18:00) combining for a low score of 19 points to easiy beat Corona’s score of 44.
Finally, in a much anticipated showdown with Corona’s nationally ranked team, it was time for the Varsity to do their part. And that they did! The DVCC Varsity completed the sweep as they were led by (Jr) DJ Harris with a 3rd place finishing time of 16:07. His teammates weren’t far behind with (Jr) Xavier Esparza in 5th (16:18), (Sr) Ben Davis 6th (16:19), (Sr) Kyle Havriliak 7th (16:24), (So) Chris D’Angelo 11th (16:37), (Jr) Nathan Chan 13th (16:58), and (Sr) Jake Janas 26th (18:51). The finishing score for DVCC was 32 points to Corona’s 42.
Next up for the Thunder is the Division 1 Sectional on Friday, October 31st at Crossroads Park. Nice job DVCC!
