The Desert Vista Boys Cross Country team competed in the Sole Sports Cross Country Festival at the Silverado Golf Course in Scottsdale on Labor Day, 9/2/13, finishing the day in second place behind local rival Corona Del Sol. Leading the way for the varsity squad, DVCC had three runners complete the three mile course in less than sixteen minutes and placing among the top ten finishers; Xavier Esparza, 5th (15:57.4), Alec Hoyt, 6th (15:58.4), and Jacob Walimaa, 8th (15:59.3). The balance of the top six scoring runners were; Ben Davis, 11th (16:19.0), Kyle Havriliak, 22nd (16:32.1), and Matthew Anciaux, 30th (16:52.7).
The JV squad had a good showing as well with 7 runners placing in the top 25 out of a huge field of 367 athletes. Sophomore Nathan Chan finished in sixth place with a time of 17:41.7. Following Nathan were; Jessen Harbertson, 12th (18:06.5), Anthony Ramirez, 13th (18:08.8), Joe Kretschmar, 15th (18:15.7), DJ Harris 18th (18:22.6), Solomon Hanson, 20th (18:25.3), and Ben Macey, 24th (18:32.5).
DVCC competes again this Saturday, September 7th, in the Chandler Invitational at 8:00 am at Tumbleweed Park. Make plans to come out and cheer on the Thunder.
