This weekend the top seven DVCC Boys runners had the incredible opportunity to travel to sunny Southern California and race in the 71st annual Mt. SAC Invitational at San Antonio College, just outside of Los Angeles.
The Mt. SAC meet included teams from all over the West Region, with teams ranging from Texas to Alaska. This was the first trip to Mt. SAC for the Thunder Boys, who competed in the top-billed Division 1 & 2 Team Sweepstakes Race. Due to the construction of a new track and field stadium at the College, the course length this year was only 2.93 miles long, which was balanced out by three monstrous hills.
Senior captain Lee Nasewytewa (15:23) placed 16th overall, followed by super-junior Sammy Van Alstine (15:38) in 28th. Close behind, was senior Travis Kearney (15:46) who placed 35th. Two seniors who joined DVCC this year, Josh Lowry (16:03) and Pierre Cuyeu (16:23), placed 57th and 72nd respectively. Junior Vincente Larente (16:44) placed an impressive 90th with sophomore Martin Fuller (17:41) rounding out the team in 117th.
Out of 357 teams, DVCC finished an incredible 7th, behind six extraordinary California teams.
Another big thank you to the coaches and staff who made this exciting meet possible. Join the Thunder on Thursday, October 25th as they take on the Tempe Union City meet!
GO THUNDER!!!!
