The Thunder traveled to Southern California on Saturday, September 21st for the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic, a huge meet that draws the Best of the West. The 3.0-mile course is flat and fast and provides a great opportunity for runners to post personal- and/or season-best times. This year, Desert Vista competed in the Blue (Division I) Class races.
Seniors Race: DVCC turned in an 11th-place finish, led by Maxton Klein in second place overall (15:15). Co-Captain Nolan Kirby was next across the line for the Thunder in 8th (15:57). LeWillis Caneus finished 119th (17:38), Co-Captain Ricky Garibay was 132nd (17:55), and Levi Shoemaker was 167th (18:31).
Juniors Race: The Thunder posted an impressive second place finish, led by Alex Hammond in 7th (16:08). Niko Maldonado was 18th (16:20), Abhay Mane took 23rd (16:31), and Alexander Braaten finished 26th (16:33). Cameron Track rounded out the scoring for the Thunder in 52nd (17:06).
Sophomores Race: The DVCC sophomore squad charged to a first-place finish, led by La'a Hancock in second place overall (15:43). Luke Littlefield was right behind in 3rd (15:45). Trenton Shirley was 14th (16:11), followed closely by Enrique Ballesteros in 19th (16:17). Trevor Williams completed the scoring in 103rd (17:18).
Freshmen Race: The Thunder frosh team placed 14th overall, led by Carter Frisk in 10th (16:28). Dillon Plethel was next across the line for the Thunder in 24th (16:53). The remaining runners who scored were Miles Edinger in 34th (17:04), Rumi Islam in 180th (18:55), and Roman Cuaron in 236th (19:30).
