The DVCC Boys travelled to Gilbert, AZ on Saturday, September 7th to compete in the Western Equinox Cross Country Festival, held at Freestone Park.
The DVCC Varsity runners brought home a 5th-place finish in the Championship race, led by senior Maxton Klein, who finished in 27th place with a time of 16:34. A trio of sophomores was close behind with La'a Hancock in 30th (16:34), Jacob Luecker in 36th (16:44), and Luke Littlefield in 42nd (16:50). Rounding out the scoring for the Thunder was junior Alex Hammond in 60th (17:15).
The Thunder JV squad grabbed first place in the Open Race, led by sophomore Enrique Ballesteros, who finished in 2nd place (17:44). Other DVCC runners in the top-10 were sophomore Trenton Shirley in 6th (18:38), and juniors Abhay Mane in 8th (18:43) and Alexander Braaten in 10th (18:57). Completing the scoring for the Thunder was sophomore Trevor Williams in 11th (18:58).
In the Freshman race, the Thunder were led to a 3rd-place finish by Carter Frisk, who took medalist honors with a time of 18:22. Dillon Pethel was right behind in second place with a time of 18:31. Miles Eddinger was next in 7th (18:52), followed by Roman Cuaron in 45th (21:36) and Ben Leeman in 53rd (22:03).
