The Tempe City Cross Country Championship took place last Wednesday, October 23rd. This meet was held at Kiwanis Park, which is notorious for being extremely hilly. The DVCC boys were not phased as their hard work and the good coaching provided allowed for great success.
This race format was changed this year and all of the boys (Varsity, JV, and Freshmen) raced together in a single race. The JV and Freshmen races were not scored.
With a single shot of the gun, the one and only race began. Six of the top ten finishers came from the Desert Vista squad.
Coming in first overall as the 2019 Tempe City Cross Country Champion was Demitris Love with a time of 17:06. Following Love was Noah Jodon (17:20) in 3rd, Sammy Van Alstine (17:34) in 4th, Jacob Cardon (18:06) crossing in 7th and Vincent Laurente (18:13) in 9th. The top five runners for the team scored a total of 24 points, which earned the grand reward of first place among all the other teams. This was the sixth straight City Championship for the Varsity squad.
From Freshmen to Seniors, all DVCC boys gave a great effort on this challenging course. Being that this was the last race for some Thunder runners, it was obvious that each gave it his all.
The team has the option to extend their season by running in the Nike Cross Regional (NXR). For those who opt out, the City Meet was the last race of the regular season and we thank you for coming out and your contribution to the team.
A special thank you to all the parents and coaches that make this program so successful and amazing! We really could not do it without you. Thanks for such an amazing season!
